NEWSSummer Young Chefs In Black Creek!
More Valley youth were able to participate in the Thrifty Foods `Young Chefs On The Run` camp in Black Creek in July. This hands-on program allows youth to participate in fun activities and also learn how to make healthy snacks and meals. The enthusiastic bunch is shown here with their hand-crafted grocery shopping bags. Spring Meltdown 2010 a Big Success! Thanks to all participants in the 2010 Spring Meltdown! Over 240 Valley residents of all ages got active and stayed motivated by logging their activity for the whole month of May. The most popular activity was walking, followed by biking - easy to do in our beautiful region. Congratulations everybody! Active Is What You Make It, Active Is for Life!Get Ready to Move for Free or Little Cost
One of the messages featured in the Active Comox Valley“Active is for Life” campaign. Active Comox Valley is encouraging local residents to get moving without putting a dent in their wallet or daily schedule. With the help of a grant from the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the Heart and Stroke Association of BC & Yukon, a guide to free and low-cost activities (less than $5) for adults is available here or pick up a copy at your local recreation centre. The grant is part of several joint initiatives the BC Recreation and Parks Association and the Heart & Stroke Foundation of BC & Yukon are implementing as part of its work with the BC Healthy Living Alliance, a coalition of organizations that came together to improve the health of British Columbians. The BC Healthy Living Alliance is funded with support from ActNow BC. Get ready, get set for 12 More Great Places to Get Active For Free in the Comox Valley! In partnership with the Cycling Task Force, ACV has produced a third trail map to help get residents up and active by foot or by wheels to explore the region. Twelve trails featuring six favorite cycling routes (both road and mountain biking) are highlighted, along with trails that are wheelchair accessible and pet-friendly throughout many of our communities — Denman Island, Fanny Bay, and Cumberland to name a few. Download a copy here or pick one up at your local rec centre or Visitor Information Centre. Happy trails! |
